Great chapter wrapping things up for year 2. Like most of your avid readers I can't wait to see what you came up with for WAY3 the ghost magic training sounds very intriguing well we can hope for maybe a special Christmas present an extra chapter for surviving the 2012 Apocalypse. Thanks for sharing.

Glad you enjoyed the book.

Don't hold your breath on that extra chapter, or you'll have your own personal apocalypse.

Eric I really like your writing.  Really hope you intend to continue this with at least a year three and four.  Can you comment on that??

I have commented on this issue already.  Woodward is planned as an eight-year series, plus a possible short-story anthology.  Year 3 is already written.

Perhaps you should follow my "Writing Status" thread, to keep up with these things.

That... doesn't really answer his question, LA, since WAY3 isn't even in PRM yet...

Woodward Academy is on a monthly posting cycle, one chapter per month.  Given that WAY2's last chapter was posted this month, I'm sure you can figure out when WAY3, Chapter 1, will come out...

It was explained in book 2 that very often, wizards do not replace familiars that have passed on.  The familiar is mostly a help to new wizards, trying to adjust to the magical life.  Many, if not most, don't want to try to refill that post once it's vacated.

i really am sympathy with cherise..
yes what she did was really bad, but sometimes love can drive people doing some nasty things in order to get what they want

Personally, I wouldn't call what Cherise had love.  Obsession for sure, but not love.  Just my opinion, but I think a lot of people confuse love with passion and obsession.

I think of love as acceptance of the other as they are, at least for the most part.  You may not like everything they think or do, but if you love them you accept them.  You may point out their flaws in hopes that they will someday come around and stop bad behavior or open their eyes to the truth.  And of course in the case of life threatening issues that the person is blind to (such as various addictions), you should try to intervene if possible.  But if Cherise had truly loved David, then she would want him to be happy and how could harming his friends and loved ones make him happy.

Her obsession with David along with her passion and desires for him drove her crazy if she wasn't already.  Just my opinion.

I was wondering why Devyn was able to travel for her citizenship quests before she could have gotten her travel endorsement without having an escort?

That's very simple.

Devyn is an elf.

Only humans are subject to the travel restrictions of the land.  This is because Dugerra is not humanity's primary homeland; Earth is.  Elves, orcs, dwarves, gnomes... these beings do not live in Earth.  There is no alternative for them if their current home becomes unlivable for whatever reason.

Earth wizards can move from place to place by going through Earth and then re-entering Dugerra at the point they wish to visit.  The other beings don't have this option.

Likewise, only humans have the last five tests: citizenship, entrepreneurial license, A1, A2, and MD (Magistrate's Decree).  These things apply to Callamandia specifically.  (Although all nations in Dugerra have some kind of citizenship requirement, we saw with Devyn that it can be vastly different from the testing done in Callamandia.)

The wizarding licensure is the only world-wide universal requirement, and even that is tailored to the race.

The tailored bit kind of sucks for me. Personally I would have loved to see the dwarves be more into elemandy specifics.

Dwarves cannot perform elemandy.  No point in teaching them something they cannot do.  It's like teaching people how to fly under their own power.

I know, I’m saying I think it would be better if they COULD, I don’t see it impacting the story terribly if they could have done it.

Which just begs the question:  How would it have been in any way "better"?  You just admitted it wouldn't have impacted the story.  Thus, it would be neither better, nor worse, merely different.

I chose to do it the way I did it because I felt that dwarves, as miners, would have things far too easy if they were capable of terramandy.

PS:  How to fly:

The trick to flight is to throw yourself at the ground, and miss.  Please note that if you're at all serious about this endeavor, failing to miss could be rather painful.

This story really is fantastic. I don't know that I like David quite as much as I do Nathan from CSR, but I absolutely adore the notion of a demi-ghost in a world of magical people/creatures, and I rather enjoy the tales that have been woven for him.
