was the military uniform also green? I thought you mentioned it was green in way-7 chapter 11. If it is, might the green in the insignias get lost in the background green of the uniform? Of course, I could be wrong and need to reread chapter 11... which I plan to do before chapter 12 lands. ----- |

Yes, the uniform is green. And the green background of the insignia is intended to get "lost" against the color of the uniform. The gold and silver are the rank indicators (shape, in the case of gold, and level, in the case of silver). The green could just as easily have been omitted from the insignia altogether, and just been an empty hole. It was made solid for durability purposes. ----- Please Remember: The right to Freedom of Speech does not carry the proviso, "As long as it doesn't upset anyone." ok... although the gold border doesn't quite look gold, on my display anyway. It looks to be a lighter or brighter form of pastel green (maybe yellow green). But not what I think of as gold. I suppose it could be my display though. ----- |

hmm i see your point for the officer and senior officer insignia's . but if you are not very close or under limited visibility the enlisted insignia will be difficult to differentiate i think. also the Liderra and Arkigo would look a lot alike under less then optimal visibility. though i don't think one will mistake the equivalent of a general for a sergeant in reality. ----- |

Taken straight from Photoshop, the color used is (122, 127, 33). This is admittedly closer to brass than gold, but it is hardly "pastel yellow-green". The insignias do have a "reflection" effect on them, however, so the exact color will depend on just where you're looking.
I'd like you to take a look at the image below:

Agreed, in the dark First Sgt/Master Sgt and CSM are pretty similar. The ranks that you've created look very much like those that would pin onto a dress uniform. Those in the post above are subdued to be sewn onto combat uniforms, I'm guessing that even wizards would agree with the practicality of sewn on rank with subdued colors for combat, perhaps with gold converting to a brown and green converting to black to stand out just enough to be made out when a person is close. ----- |

Perhaps, though honestly, converting is probably wasted effort in the case of wizards, given that the only point of the conversion is to make you harder to find, and wizards have other than visual means for finding you... ----- Please Remember: The right to Freedom of Speech does not carry the proviso, "As long as it doesn't upset anyone." ok, to be honest, I wasn't thinking of the grey section in some of the ranks as being significant. With the background it was sitting on it looked more like it was the see through color even though the texture was gone. So I was thinking the green fill had some significance when it was just supposed to depict the color of the uniform it would be sewn onto. ----- |
