Just thought someone would get a kick that the ewpub.org website is down due to expiration of the domain name.

just curius but does that mean that ewp is dead or that they need to pay the bill to get it back?

It means that he has a limited time (I forget if it's 30 days or 90 days or what...) to re-register before the domain name becomes publicly available again.
So the question is whether or not Julian will pay the registration fee. However, given that he would have been warned repeatedly that the domain was expiring, I somehow have my doubts that he's going to re-register it.

On one hand I'm sad to see it go, as it was where I really got started in the online fiction community, but on the other hand, it's really gone down hill for a long time now. Perhaps, like an old horse, it's time to put it down...

I don't know the prices, or how domain names work, but if it does expire, have you thought of purchasing the domain and redirecting traffic here?
Offline
Yes, actually, I have. I just don't know if people would find that in some way objectionable. However, if EWPUB really is gone, and the domain remains unused for a few months, I might give it some thought.

EDIT: It's a moot point, though, since the registry entry shows that the domain has been renewed for another year. Apparently, Julian just wasn't paying attention.
Why doesn't that surprise me?

EWP is not closing its doors. It is still registered until 12/3/08. Due to some glitch the site went down. It should be back up in the next couple days.

It wasn't "a glitch", Khellendros. Earlier today, the registration information clearly showed the domain had expired.
Clearly, Julian (or someone acting on his behalf) renewed the domain after it expired and they were "reminded" that it needed to be renewed. Please don't misrepresent the facts.

From what Julian was saying earlier today the site was marked as expired today but it is registered until 12/03/08. I am not certain the full details. All I can say is that it is still marked as such, but he claims it will be back up when he gets in contact with 'them'.

It's not as if Julian has ever showed much sign of caring about EWP.

The site, having its domain expired, will have been removed from lots of DNS servers.
What this means is that it will take the usual 24-72 hour DNS propagation time to restore it.

EWP is back up, for those who care.
I do note that Julian has decided to blame me for the outage, at least in a roundabout way. Why is it that he cannot take responsibility for ANYTHING?

He did? typical

Don't worry, Net. I'm sure that if his car ran out of gas on a long trip, he'd find some way to blame you. I'm sure he's not fooling anyone.
Offline
ya in a off hand way its kinda funny that he blamed you for somthing that to any (mostly sane mostly normal) person would be his responsiblety therefore his fault . ohh well.
Offline
Well, to be fair, he did finally own up to basically having a brain fart. But still, his initial reaction was to make sure to badmouth me in the process. *shrugs* Oh well.

That is an interesting way of putting "I fucked up and didn't already know when the domain was expiring".

hey anyone have a clue y ewp is down again

If you had looked at the date of the original posting here, you'd have noticed a similarity.......
I imagine he just forgot to pay it again. According to the WHOIS record, he HAS paid it now, and the site will be back up in the near future.

That boy really needs to get a calendar reminder thing, doesn't he?
Offline
OR just pay attention to the emails his registrar sends him. Mine sends them about three months in advance.
Unless, of course, he decided not to BOTHER renewing... Since, according to what I've heard, the site is kind of falling apart, anyway...

I occasionally check in there are a few writers still there w good stuff that haven't moved on

At this point, I'm beginning to think it's gone for good. It's been down for a full week, with no signs of life.
