I cry for the future of America. Not that I had any illusion that we read enough as a country.

I'm sorry, but this really amuses me. Novellists do not have a rapid release schedule. It's not like screenwriters, who, if they aren't writing, completely stall the industry. If a novellist doesn't write, then their book doesn't get written. That's it. There are always more who'll be happy to take over if necessary.
What on Earth made them think they held the power to have a strike? O_o

Maybe it has made no difference because we've taken up the slack? Everyone is reading on Wolfpub now? Well, it COULD happen!

The Onion as a website only publishes fake news. Hence people writing as Richard Bachman (which I believe is/was a pen name-or maybe the real name-of Stephen King), quite a few of the novelists stopping in the middle of their first novel (so they're totally unknown and not actually professional novelists as of yet)...etc.

Well, as an ebook device owner, I don't even remotely miss news feeds - I like novels. I've read exactly ONE printed book in the last 4 months and something like 2-3 dozen ebooks in that time.
