"In the beginning, there were gods.
"Many and feuding, powerful and inconsequential, ruling from on high and walking among us in our own form, they vied for power and followers among each other and among ourselves.
"Since the beginning humans by the thousands and the millions have committed their lives to these beings and to power they do not fully understand. In doing so they have sought to trade worship for favor, even to the point of declaring themselves divine.
"As is the way of things, such beings pass - as they have passed for thousands of years. Wars are fought among the faithful, shrines torn down or destroyed by natural or man-made disasters. These powerful beings have in the course of time found themselves alone and dying in dark, forgotten places as their followers have moved on to the next more powerful or more popular being.
"With the coming of the One God, the true God, of Abraham, of Mohammed, of Jesus, other gods were driven to those dark places in droves. The Earth had been cleansed of gods, in favor of a God so great that He could not be contained, even within a single name. The victory of the One God seemed absolute even Wicca suffered burnings and the label of witch."
I had this in a doc file on my computer.  I saved it because it is a great seed for a story I'm planning, but I have no idea where it is from.  Any clues people?  I'd appreciate the help.
It's either from a novel or a RPG source book.
