Downey is Holmes

I'm a big Robert Downey Jr. fan.  I knew he would play a great Tony Stark in Iron Man; not just a hero in a suit, but the arrogant, alcoholic millionaire, that tries to redeem himself by being a hero in a suit.

I just found out tht he will be in an adaptation of Sherlock Holmes.  This wont be your "elementary my dear Watson" Holmes, smoking a pipe and playing a violin.  This is going to be the obsessive, heroin addict Holmes, who struggles to feel anything when not having a mystery to focus on.

Re: Downey is Holmes

This is slightly off-topic, but not really.  I think the best Sherlock Holmes series I ever read was Laurie R. King's Mary Russell series, which starts with "The Beekeeper's Apprentice".  It's kind of a "What Sherlock Holmes did after the Doyle novels" thing.  He actually finds a female to respect and they have mysterious things to solve.  They were really good.

Re: Downey is Holmes

It is... interesting. I suspect the Marketing department asked for the most straight-ahead action-adventure summer-blockbuster trailer possible, since the trailer is playing in front of straight-ahead action-adventure summer-blockbuster movies... but I bet the actual flick turns out to be a little quirkier than that, simply because of the director's (Guy Ritchie) work to date.
